  Trenitalia conditions for traveling with a pet according to its size:

  • Small Pets:

    You may travel with up to one small pet for free in first and second class. However, your pet must travel in a carrier that measures no more than 70 x 30 x 50 cm. To issue the free ticket for your pet, please contact us through the contact form.

  • Larger Dogs:

    If you wish to travel with a larger dog, you must purchase a ticket for your dog. Your dog must be on a leash and wear a muzzle while traveling. To arrange this, please contact us through the contact form for assistance.

  You must have a registration certificate and a health card for your pet (except for guide dogs). Alternatively, a "pet passport" may be used to replace these documents. Failure to provide this documentation may result in being asked to leave the train.

  Travelling with your pet on Trenitalia trains:

  Travelling with your dog, cat, or other small pets is easy and affordable on Trenitalia trains:

  • Small Pets: Small pets can travel free of charge in a carrier with a maximum size of 70 x 30 x 50 cm.
  • Larger Dogs: Larger dogs can travel with a ticket. The cost of the dog ticket is €5 for journeys from Sunday to Friday, and only €1 for train journeys on Saturday. The dog must remain on a leash and wear a muzzle during the trip.

  How to Purchase a Dog Ticket:

  You can purchase a ticket for your dog easily through the Trenitalia website or app. After selecting your train and preferred offer, add the "Travelling with your dog" service before making the payment. The price for your dog’s ticket will be displayed, and you can add it to your cart.

  You can also buy the dog ticket at train stations from ticket offices, self-service machines, authorized travel agencies, or by calling the Trenitalia Call Centre.

  Important Reminder: Don't forget to bring your dog’s registration certificate and health booklet, as these are mandatory for traveling with your pet.
